What is Idealism?

… if I remove the thinking subject, the whole material world must at once vanish because it is nothing but a phenomenal appearance in the sensibility of ourselves as a subject, and a manner or species of representation.

— Immanuel Kant, Critique of Pure Reason A383

Quantum theorists often end up with a nearly identical understanding of reality. It seems to be in keeping with the Everett Many Worlds Theory.

…I would continue to extend your metaphor beyond friends (which is painful enough – and for me begs the question “why did I survive?”) to those whom we have destroyed through our ignorance, greed, neglect, etc.
One thing that really struck me while studying religion, particularly Christianity, was that the “god” or “gods” (three gods in xnity – two male [father & son] and one female [spirit]) were so clearly human. When God [Yhwh or Elohim or El] wasn’t human enough, Jesus (Yeshua) came along ensure that “He” was fully human (and fully god).
To me this is the great arrogance which has kept us confused for the past 10k years. When humans practiced animism (and those who still do) – we recognized that we were miniscule in the grand scheme of things. We let the universe guide us and we knew how to listen for something other than “words” for guidance. Why would we seek human expression from something far more complex than humanity? -(Not to entirely separate the two).
As humanity developed technology, became sedentary, developed agricultural and massively expanded our population, we apparently decided that there was something special about us. So special that the God(s), the Ultimate Creator(s), the Spirit(s) of Life, etc., must be just like “us”. “He” must be some kind of “super human” that looked, spoke, felt, acted, etc., like humans do.
There is SO much more to the history of this – but once you begin to see things more objectively, as you now are, it gets easier.
Have you read any of Daniel Quinn’s books or Viktor Frankl? Quinn deals with deconstructing the historical model and Frankl offers a chance to find meaning in life.
